FAQs

Is Akagera National Park really a Big Five destination?

Yes, it is. Thanks to dedicated conservation efforts, Akagera has successfully reintroduced lions and both black and white rhinos. When combined with elephants, leopards, and buffaloes, it offers a world-class savannah experience that rivals its East African neighbors.

What makes Magashi Camp different from other lodges?

Magashi is located in a private concession in the northern part of the park. This means you will not encounter crowds of day-trippers. Furthermore, it is the only camp in Akagera that offers high-end, Wilderness-level luxury and expert-led boat safaris.

How difficult is the trek to see the gorillas from Bisate?

The trek difficulty varies. However, Bisate is located very close to the park headquarters, minimizing travel time. The hike can be steep and muddy, but we provide porters to assist you. Our guides always work to match you with a gorilla group that fits your physical ability.

Can I see the "Big Five" and Gorillas in one day?

No, the parks are located in different parts of the country. Akagera is in the east and Volcanoes National Park is in the north. This is why a 6-day itinerary is ideal; it allows for the travel time needed to appreciate both ecosystems without feeling rushed.
